The State Capitol
The Legislative building was completed in 1928 at a total cost of $7,385,768.21. The dome is 287 feet high and weights 30,800,000 lbs. The building took 6 years to build.

Included in Capitol tours are the following: Legislative Building, built in 1928; The Executive Mansion, by reservation only; The Old Capitol Building, built in 1892; The state Capitol Museum in the Lord Mansion; The Temple of Justice, built in 1920; The Capitol Conservatory, a greenhouse built in 1939; The Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
The Evergreen State
This nickname came about because of the flourishing evergreen forests of the state. The name was coined by C.T. Conover, a Seattle realtor and historian. The nickname was officially adopted in February 1893.

Government
The state legislature is bicameral consisting of a lower House of Representatives and a State Senate. Senators are elected for four year terms while House members serve two year terms. There are no term limits. The Governor is elected for a four year term.

Quinault Rain Forest - One of the most beautiful spots on the west coast! It is near Lake Quinault, a lake formed by a glacier. It is 250 feet down to its deepest point and surrounded by beautiful forests. The area is almost directly west of Seattle, almost to the coast in northern Grays Harbor County. Amanda Park and Quinault are two small communities located in the Rain forest. The entrance to Olympic National Park is about a mile north of Amanda Park.
