Corbin was first known as Lynn Camp Territory when it was founded in the late 1800's. Nelson Cummins, James Eaton and David T. Chestnut are credited as the co-founders of Corbin in 1884. Eaton then named the little community Cummins after Nelson Cummins who owned the land. But a year later, he renamed it to honor his friend, the Reverend, James Corbin Floyd. By 1900, Corbin had grown, boasting a population of 1,500.
