The town site of Cedaredge was first just the headquarters of a cattle spread. Sophie Kohler, wife of the Bar-I Ranch Foreman, named the place Cedar Edge. The name became one word when the post office was established in 1894. In September 1996, Colorado Highway 65 was designated a National Scenic Byway . Leading to the Grand Mesa, at over 10,000 feet, and more than 35 miles long, it is a distinctive land markas the world's largest flat top mountain.
For many years, this area was ideal for the growing of fruit, such as: apples, peaches, pears, apricots and cherries. In more recent years, wine grapes were tried and found to be equally successful. There is even a fine wine with a Cedaredge label.
Here is a history page for Cedaredge.
